Why Dad and Baby Poses Are Special

Dad and baby newborn poses capture the special bond between dad and baby.

  • The way baby looks so small in his hands
  • The way he holds and protects baby
  • The way dad looks at baby

As a daddy’s girl I wish I had more of these types of moments of me and my dad together.

Why You Should Hire Me or another Professional Photographer to Capture These Moments

Most Popular Dad and Newborn Poses

3 main poses for beautiful, connected newborn photos

The first days with your baby fly by in a blur of feedings and tiny yawns. Capturing these sweet moments through photos helps you remember them forever.

In dad’s arms or hands

Nothing shows how small and delicate baby is better than when in dad’s hands

  • The Classic Cradle – Baby tucked in dad’s arms or hands

Over-the-Shoulder or Laying on Chest Moments

These poses catch those tender comfort positions that come so naturally:

  1. Baby’s resting on dad’s shoulder or chest
  2. Baby’s back resting on dad’s chest with dad’s arm proping baby
  3. Maximize the pose by making small adjustments.

Pro Tip: For these poses, catch baby after a feeding when they’re likely to be calm and content.

Faces Close Together

Some of the most touching photos happen when dad and baby are face-to-face. These are my favorite poses to photograph.

  • foreheads touching
  • nose-to-nose
  • cheek-to-cheek
  • dad looking at baby
  • dad kissing baby

On-the Bed (works great for older, awake or sleeping babies

Standing or sitting (works best when baby is asleep)

These natural poses don’t require fancy setups or perfect timing. They simply need space for real moments to happen between you and your little one.

The best part? These poses work for dad’s who don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera. When you focus on your baby it’s easy to relax and enjoy the moment.

FAQ: Newborn Photography

Got questions about your upcoming mom and baby photo session? Here are answers to the most common ones:

When is the best time to book a newborn session?

Book your session while you’re still pregnant, ideally in your second trimester. Sessions typically happen when your baby is 5-14 days old, when they’re still sleepy and curly. However, my sessions work well for any age baby. Inquire Here.

How long newborn sessions typically last?

Plan for around 2 hours. This gives us plenty of time for:

  • Feeding breaks
  • Diaper changes
  • Soothing baby when needed

Don’t worry – we work at baby’s pace, never rushing the process.

Can we include the whole family in some photos?

Yes! Family, pet, sibling and shots with mom are wonderful additions. View more from this session here.
