Think about the newborn photos that make you stop scrolling. Often it’s the simplest ones: a sleeping baby on soft white, with tiny fingers curled and eyelashes resting on cheeks. There’s nothing else competing for your attention, and nothing about the photo dates it.
That’s the appeal of white studio newborn photography. It’s one of the most enduring styles in baby portraiture, and for good reason.

White studio newborn photography is a clean, minimalist approach. Your baby is photographed against a white or soft cream backdrop. Props are kept to a minimum and colors stay neutral.
The look is bright, airy, and calm. It’s often called “heirloom” or “classic” newborn photography because it feels like the portraits that get passed down and framed for generations.

Trends in newborn photography come and go. Bold color palettes, themed props, and heavy editing styles can look wonderful in the moment, then feel very “of their era” a decade later.
White doesn’t have that problem. A neutral backdrop has no trend attached to it, so a portrait taken today will look just as fresh in 20 years. It also matches any home. A white-studio portrait looks right in a nursery, a hallway gallery wall, or a grandparent’s mantel, no matter how your decor changes.
Many parents also find they still love these images long after the newborn stage, when other styles they chose in the moment have started to feel dated.

This is the real heart of the style. A newborn is only newborn for a couple of weeks, and the details are what you’ll want to remember: the wrinkled toes, the soft fuzz on their shoulders, the way their lips purse in sleep.
A white studio removes everything that might compete with those details. There are no busy patterns, no bright colors pulling the eye away, and no cluttered background. Your eye goes straight to your baby’s face, skin, and expression.
Because white reflects light, it also produces a gentle, even glow that flatters newborn skin. The tones stay soft and natural, which is exactly what you want when documenting something so delicate.

Newborn sessions are typically best scheduled within the first 5 to 14 days of life, when babies sleep deeply and curl up naturally. A few things make a studio session easy for families:
Everything is provided. A good studio supplies the backdrops, wraps, blankets, and outfits, so you don’t have to stage your home or buy anything.
The environment is controlled. A studio can be kept warm, quiet, and calm, with consistent lighting no matter the weather or time of day. That means your baby can settle comfortably.
It’s unhurried. Feeding, soothing, and diaper breaks are part of the process. Sessions often run a couple of hours so the photographer can work at the baby’s pace.
Safety comes first. Poses are done with care, and an experienced photographer follows safe handling practices throughout.

The white studio style works beautifully for the whole family. A simple backdrop and coordinated neutral clothing let the connection between you and your baby take center stage. Think of a dad’s hand cradling a tiny foot, a mom’s forehead against her baby’s, or a big brother planting a kiss on a sleeping sibling.

If you want portraits you’ll still love decades from now, a white studio session is hard to beat. It’s classic, calming, and focused entirely on the little person you’re so excited to meet.

Usually around 2 hours, which allows time for feeding and soothing.
Do I need to bring props or outfits?
No but you’re welcome to. I am a full-service studio with wraps, blankets and even wardrobe for baby, women and young children. Select shirts are provided for men.
Can siblings and parents be included?
Yes. Family portraits are a lovely addition and usually my favorite part of every session.
