A Fresh 48 session captures those first precious hours with your newborn — the tiny fingers, the sleepy snuggles, the pure, unfiltered love that fills that hospital room. You don’t need to be camera-ready in a traditional sense. In fact, the more relaxed and comfortable you feel, the more beautiful your images will be.
Here’s a simple guide to help you feel confident and look amazing without any extra stress.
For mama
Comfort is everything for your Fresh 48 session.. You’ve just done something incredible, and your outfit should honor that. A few things that photograph beautifully:
A soft, fitted robe, pj set or comfortable dress in a neutral or muted tone — ivory, white, light pink/blue, sage, or gray
Nursing friendly
A wrap-style robe or nursing gown gives easy access while still looking polished.
Color tips:
Avoid busy patterns, bright and dark colors — soft solids keep the focus on you and baby.
Keep the pastels as light as possible. Not every light pink or blue is as light as it should be to not cause strong color casts
Hair & face:
Simple is best. A loose braid or messy bun works great.
Light, natural makeup. Don’t skip a little lip/cheek color.
You don’t need to look “done.” You need to look like yourself — on the most meaningful day of your life.
Keep it simple and clean. A plain t-shirt or henley in a neutral color looks great. Avoid logos, graphics, or anything too busy. Stick with neutrals and light pastels to help keep the attention on baby.
If older kids are joining the session, coordinate loosely — matching isn’t necessary, but keeping everyone in similar tones (all neutrals, or all soft pastels) creates a cohesive, timeless look without feeling too staged.
Boys: Boys can dress similarly to dad or in comfortable big brother shirt.
Swaddled is a great option and the best option to keep baby extra happy. The hospital swaddle is great. Stretchy wraps in neutrals and light pastels are good options, as well.
2. If you’d like baby in an outfit, a soft onesie/, pj, or knit romper or gown will keep things classic. Avoid stiff or scratchy fabrics — newborns do best in soft fabrics.
Pro Tips:
For easy access to the baby’s feet, footless rompers are recommended.
Most newborns wear premie sizes. Otherwise, they’re swimming in it.
