Wardrobe Inspiration for your Spring Photo session – light and airy edition

If you’re like me shopping for the perfect wardrobe for your Spring photo session can be a daunting task. I’ve made it easier. Shop from the links below for coordinating looks for the whole family. I have included plenty of affordable options so you can look well put together for your Spring photosession without breaking the bank.

How to choose your Spring photosession wardrobe:

Where to start

  • Start with mom or the main subject first.
  • Then choose looks for girls.
  • Dad’s and boys are the easiest so I save those for last when I’m planning wardrobe for clients unless the boy is the main subject matter.

Tips for coordinating:

  • Choose 1 pattern for the session for mom or a girl. It’s difficult to pair more than 1 pattern. Think dainty florals.
  • Yes, it’s ok to use the same pattern more than once but try not to overdo it.
  • No, you do not have to wear a pattern. Solids for the whole famliy will photograph wonderfully when coordinated well.
  • Choose solids with texture like knits and muslin for the rest of the family.
  • Add dainty jewelry and small hair bows for interest
  • Pastels like light pink and blue and neutrals are best for light and airy photo sessions.

What to avoid:

  • bold patterns, logos and big stripes
  • bright and dark colors
  • anything plaid, checked, small gingham patterns or with small stripes placed really close together (these do not photograph well with digital cameras and may cause moire on your clothes in your final images)

Spring Dresses for Women

Think flowy, midi and maxi dresses for beauty and comfort. Shorter dresses can limit the poses.

Spring Toddler and Baby Wardrobe

Think comfortable and easy to maintain.

  • Soft fabrics that don’t wrinkle easily
  • Items that don’t need to be tucked in
  • Rompers are best for non-walking girls
  • Don’t forget the diaper cover under dresses
  • A bonnet is always a cute addition

Spring Bigger Kid Wardrobe

  • Think light colored chinos or linen pants and untuckted button ups or henleys for boys
  • Knee length or longer dresses for girls so they’re comfortable and covered in all poses

Men

  • Skip the everyday polo and go for henley t-shirts or untucked button ups for easy movement
  • Linens and premium cottons photo graph best
  • Solids are best for men
  • Light colored chinos are always a great choice (skip the shorts)
