Wardrobe for your 2025 Spring/Summer Photo session

What you wear to your Birmingham Photography session is incredibly important for creating beautiful images you’ll cherish for years to come. I have put together a list of comfortable, flattering and beautiful wardrobe items available to purchase for your Spring 2025 photo session.

4 Things to look for when choosing wardrobe for your 2025 Birmingham photography session

Fit

The way your clothing lays and fits in various positions is very important. Consider this when making a decision by moving around and checking to see how your wardrobe choice looks in a variety of positions.

Comfort

I very much agree with the “comfort is key” statement. If you’re uncomfortable it will show. Choose items you love while keeping comfort in mind. This is even more important for children.

Fabric Type

Fabric makes a big difference in the overall look of your session. Linens, linen blends, knits and muslins photograph well and are great for Spring. I suggest avoiding polyester, cottons (unless they’re high quality) and jersey knits.

Does it work with the location and overall style of the session

When choosing wardrobe for your photo session keep the location and overall feel of the session in mind. Do the colors blend well with the colors of the location? Does it help create the vibe you’re looking to capture?

Where to shop and what to look for

When I purchase from online vendors I look for a few key things. Also, don’t be scared to buy used and sell when your photo session is over if you don’t plan to wear it again.

  1. Quality – All wardrobe on this page can be purchased from vendors I trust. I know Amazon seems like a great place to buy wardrobe but you, often, can’t trust their quality and end up wasting time
  2. Customer Service – Customer service is important to me. I have purchased from every vendor on this page and have had great customer service.
  3. Return Policy – Pay attention to the return policy. If they don’t offer a refund, and many don’t these days, you won’t want to purchase to try on and send back.

I suggest shopping in this order

  1. Women – Women and older girls are often the pickiest and hardest to shop for. I find it’s best to shop for women and older girls first for that reason and to decide if they will be the one to wear a pattern.
  2. Toddler and Baby Girls – if you didn’t choose a pattern above adding one here is a great choice
  3. Boys – Boys are generally easy. Solids are usually the best choice. If you’re adding a pattern for boys and men do so thoughtfully.
  4. Men – The menfolk usually have something in their closets, already, that will work. If not simple khakis and an untucked button up in a solid, neutral color are easy to find.

I am a big fan of the following online, vendors:

Women

  1. Worth Collective – I have purchased quite a few dresses from Worth Collective and am never disappointed
  2. Nothing Fits But – Nothing Fits But dresses re-sell very well and can often be found used to save $
  3. Baltic Born – Balti Born offers the largest selection of photo session worthy dresses I have seen.

Babies and Toddlers

  1. Olive and Cradle – I have made many purchases from Olive and Cradle. They never disappoint in quality and price.
  2. Zara – Zara is always a great choice for quality items that won’t break the bank
  3. Feltman Brothers offers quality heirloom clothing that’s perfect for cherished memories.

Older Girls

Joyfolie and Zara are my go to for my 3 older girls. H&M will, often, have items that photograph well, too. They have great sales and a large variety of styles and colors perfect for photo sessions.

Men

You can’t go wrong with Banana Republic for men. It’s my go to. Say no to generic polos and choose something a little less “everyday” for an elevated, but comfortable look. I, also, suggest leaving the prints for the ladies and going with a solid.

Boys

I have found H&M to have the best boys selection. A light colored chino or linen blend pant paired with a neutral top is a great look for boys and easy to find. Say no prints to generic polos and choose something solid and a little less “everyday.”
