Photographing twins is a joyful challenge—double the cries, double the expressions, and yes, double the coordination. Whether you’re a parent planning a photo session or a photographer seeking creative inspiration, these twin photography pose ideas will help you capture timeless, connected memories in a quick and simple way.
First, let’s discuss important details that will give you a great start for a successful photo session with twin, newborns.
For this twin newborn session, we started with the babies wrapped and wearing simple diaper covers to keep the look natural and timeless. Then, we placed them in my changing basket from Bebe Bask, which has become one of my favorite session props for babies. I love incorporating a basket like this—it adds a natural, organic element that blends beautifully with the relaxed feel of lifestyle newborn photography.
Then we placed the twins in comfortable, matching outfits and laid them on the bed with a keepsake blanket mom had for them. Mom wanted a sweet shot with the bonnets on. After that, we switched things up by adding bows for a different look.
Every pose offers a chance to create a variety of beautiful, connected images that parents will treasure. Use the tips below to bring out that variety and emotion in your session:
With newborns, every small change is a chance for a treasured image.
Before moving the twins, separate them and take the opportunity to capture individual memories of each baby.
Once we were happy with the images taken on the bed or bean bag and using the changing basket, we moved on to capturing the twins in their parents’ arms. I’ll have the parents sit or stand while holding the babies, depending on the light and space.
Just like before, I continue to use a variety of angles and crops to build a diverse and meaningful gallery. Close-ups of hands, wide shots showing full connection, and detail shots of the babies nestled in their arms all help tell a complete story.
These parent shots are often some of the most emotional and treasured—showing scale, tenderness, and the deep bond that’s already forming.
