More times than not, if you don’t love your photography session it’s because you don’t love your chosen wardrobe. Maybe your choices didn’t blend well together or with the background, lay right, or weren’t the right shape for your body type. That’s where I come in. Years of experience photographing families with young children has taught me what works best.
Simple Tips
- Style: Flowy dresses and skirts photograph add movement
- Comfort and Overall Look: Keep clothing comfortable. Your photo session can be beautiful and comfortable.
- shirts that tuck in, for children, almost always come untucked and waste precious session time
- Consider how clothing lays in various positions. If you don’t like it change it.
- Cover what you don’t want seen.
- Footwear: You don’t always need shoes but, if you’re going to wear them, make sure they blend well
- Fabrics: In Alabama it’s often hot for Fall sessions. Muslin, linen and woven knits are great outfit choices that a sweater can be added to for extra warmth
- Patterns and Textures: blending patterns can be tricky, but it can be done. A great rule of thumb, if you’re unsure, is to choose 1 pattern for 1 family member or matching ones.
- Accessories: Simple accessories like a necklace or earrings can add a nice touch to your outfit without overwhelming the photo. Just make sure they don’t distract from the overall look.
- Colors: For a light and airy feel, muted tones like cream, beige, mauve or dusty blue instead of orange/red, dark brown, and navy. You could, also, choose a neutral base with a colored, dainty pattern.
Overall, keep in mind that you want to look polished and put-together, but also comfortable and natural. You don’t want to be fussing with your clothes or worrying about how you look during the session.
