Meet my Granny, who was in her late 80 to early 90’s at the time of these photo sessions (now 93), and my youngest daughter, her great-granddaughter. My youngest and my Granny have always been up for my photo session ideas and the results are treasured memories I will forever have.
My granny has always held a special place in my heart but there’s nothing like having a grandparent when you’re an adult. A bond is formed that’s different than that of a grandparent and a young grandchild. As an adult you realize the importance of every moment more than when you were a child. This has always led me to take as many photos of her with my girls as possible.

Grandparent photosessions capture one of life’s most special bonds. These photos aren’t just pictures – they’re family treasures that grow more valuable with time.
The connection between grandparents and grandchildren or great-grandchildren is unique. It’s full of love, wisdom, and fun that deserve to be saved forever. When you book a Grand Parent photo session, you’re saving these moments for both today’s joy and tomorrow’s memories.
Why should you plan a grandparent photo session soon?
The simple moments often mean the most – grandpa teaching how to fish, grandma baking cookies, or just cuddles on the couch with a book. These everyday scenes show the real love between generations.
When families look back at these images years later, they don’t just see faces. They remember feelings, stories, and the special love that only grandparents can give.

Timing is key when planning photos with grandparents and grandchildren. The right moment creates magic in your family pictures!
Summer and fall work great for outdoor shots with nice light and comfortable temps. Winter can create cozy indoor moments with grandparents reading or baking with grandkids.
If grandparents live far away, book your session:
Remember to build in buffer time around travel days to avoid rushed feelings. A relaxed session always leads to better photos of these precious family bonds.

Picking the right spot for grandparent photos makes all the difference in capturing those special bonds. Here are some great places to consider:

Parks and nature spots work well for active little ones. We took these where I grew up spending time with my Dad’s parents. This grandmother is my mom’s mom but, after my Dad’s parents passed and my parents moved in she has spent many days here with us.

For a more controlled setting:
The best photos happen in places where everyone feels relaxed. Your family’s normal hangout spots often make the most authentic backgrounds for Grandparent Photosession magic.
Choosing the right clothes for grandparent photos can make or break your session. Here are simple tips to help your family look great together.
PRO TIP: Even if not planned take the picture. Memories don’t have to mean cohesive outfits, perfect lighting and people performing and smiling for you. Memories can be preserved at any moment.
Pick a color scheme aand comfortable clothing that works for everyone:
Getting kids ready for photos with grandparents takes a bit of planning. Little ones can be unpredictable, but some prep work helps!

As a parent and photographer, I know how fast kids grow up. Those sweet moments with grandparents deserve to be captured before they’re gone.
What makes my grandparent sessions special:
Many clients tell me they put off booking family photos until it was too late. Don’t wait for “someday” – these relationships are worth capturing now.
