Birmingham Portrait Photographer – Holmes Family Mini Session

When choosing a Birmingham Portrait Photographer many families only want a short and sweet session with a lower commitment. Mini sessions work well for most families but there are successful mini sessions and not so successful mini session. The tips below will help you make the most of your mini session so you go home with a gallery full of moments you love.

How to make the most of your Birmingham mini session

  1. Communicate your needs and wants to your photographer. I provide a session questionnaire so I know exactly what my clients want and don’t like.
  2. Plan well. Mini doesn’t mean lesser so don’t search through your closet at the late minute hoping everybody has something to wear. Plan your outfits well in advance. Buy some new things, if needed, so your look is updated and coordinated. This will make a big difference. Comfortable wardrobe choices are, also, very important. You don’t want to be tugging and pulling and wasting precious time.
  3. Make sure everybody is well fed before your session. A hangry toddler never works well during a photo session.
  4. Arrive early. Mini sessions are limited on time. Arriving late will result in less time and likely less photos of all the things you want to remember. If you have a toddler or shy child, arrive in time for them to explore and get more comfortable with the idea before starting your session.
  5. Relax and have fun. Even if your goal is to capture a good “everybody looking at the camera” portrait this will come more naturally if everybody is comfortable and happy throughout the process. I love to capture all the moments and get the”standing” still shots in between all the fun. This way kids cooperate without realizing it.
  6. Bribe if you have to. I’m really not a fan of bribing because I think a photo session should be fun, but you know your family better than I do and bribe’s are, sometimes, necessary.
