Maren came to my studio in Vestavia Hills for Alabama Baby Portraits at 8 months old after driving an hour and a half to get to me. She was eager to show off all the skills she has obtained since her newborn sessions. After photographing their Fresh 48 and Newborn sessions when Maren was born, it was extra special to see them again. I am always honored to be chosen over and over and over again.

Every baby grows so fast in their first year! From rolling over to walking, those sweet moments need to be saved forever. In my Birmingham studio, I create a calm space where babies can show off their new tricks and moms can take home beautiful portraits.
Maren’s session was full of giggles and smiles. Her big brown eyes lit up the whole room! My studio is filled with soft light and white walls and linens to keep the focus on her cute expressions and tiny details like her little toes and chubby fingers.

Many parents ask if we should shoot in the studio or outdoors. Both have good points! My Birmingham studio offers:
But don’t worry – we can also plan outdoor sessions at Birmingham’s pretty parks when weather permits! Check out my guide to my favorite outdoor locations in Birmingham along with an outdoor baby milestone session.

Outfit choices make such a difference in baby photos. Maren wore the sweetest clothes for her session! Light colors and simple patterns work best on camera. I am a big fan of bubbles over dresses for the sitter stage since they’re easier to move in and cover more.
Her mom picked a gorgeous pink bubble from Phoenix and Ren that made her eyes pop. The addition of a bonnet is always a sweet touch. Since is was close to Christmas, Maren wore a sweet Christmas dress, as well, that was just perfect for her age.

Schedule around naps and feeding times. Happy babies make happy photos! Studio sessions are available during morning and early afternoon times.
Pack 1-2 outfits depending on what your session allows plus extras just in case. Simple, solid colors photograph best. Avoid big logos, bright/busy patterns.
Bring small toys and confort items you don’t mind being in the photos to help baby feel at home and get natural smiles.
A well fed baby won’t need to stop for snacks during the shorter sessions (20-30 minutes.) If your session is longer (45 mins to 1hr) consider bringing a snack that is easy to eat. A fruit or yogurt pouch is a great option.
Tell me about your style and how you plan to display photos. This helps me create images that will look perfect in your home.

When you arrive at my Birmingham studio, we’ll start by getting baby dressed and letting them acclimate to their new surroundings. If baby seems happy and acclimated we will jump right in with portraits of them by themselves.
I alwasy encourage at least 1 parent to be ready to hop in some photos in case some parental comfort is needed or just so you have those special moments.
Parents are always in the room during photos. You can help with smiles or step back – whatever works best for your baby.

Many people choose newborn, 6 month (or sitter), and 1st birthday photo sessions to capture their baby’s first year.
3 month and 9 month sessions are also great milestones to capture.
2-3 months is best, however, last minute sessions are often available on weekday mornings.
Baby sessions typically last 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on whether familiy is joining in.
I have packages to suit all wants and needs.
Maren’s brother was included in this session for some shots by himself and some with her.
