Mountain Brook Newborn Photography

Meet the Freeman Family

Emily Freeman is a local wedding photographer here in the Birmingham area. She knows what goes into a great photo. So when it came time for her own newborn session, she had a clear vision.

She wanted something sweet and timeless. Heirloom-style images that would feel special for years to come.

That kind of trust means a lot. And it made their Laura Cardan Photography Studio newborn session near Mountain Brook something really special.

You can see Emily’s beautiful work over at Emily Freeman Photos.

The session took place right here in the studio in Mountain Brook. The setup was calm, warm, and cozy, just what a newborn needs.

Emily wanted classic, soft images. No bold colors or busy props. Just clean, simple, and beautiful.

5 Tips for Planning Your Own Laura Cardan Photography Studio Studio Newborn Session in Mountain Brook

Planning a newborn session does not have to be stressful. Here are five simple tips to help you get ready.

1. Book Early in Your Pregnancy

The best time to book your Laura Cardan Photography Studio studio newborn session in Mountain Brook or surrounding Birmingham cities is during your second trimester. Newborn sessions can be scheduled anytime up to 3 months. 10-14 days and 4 weeks are my preferred times for newborn sessions.

2. Plan Your Session for the First Two Weeks or around 4 weeks

Newborns are the most flexible and sleepy in those early days. That makes posing easier and sessions smoother. If you miss out on that timeframe don’t worry, newborn sessions can be scheduled at any age.

3. Feed Baby When You Arrive

A full baby is a sleepy baby. Try to feed your little one when you arrive. This helps them stay calm and comfortable throughout the session with fewer interruptions.

4. Keep Your Outfit Simple

Neutral colors photograph beautifully in a studio setting. Soft creams, whites, and tans keep the focus on your baby. Avoid busy patterns or bright colors.

5. Trust the Process

As a Mountain Brook newborn photographer, I have worked with many families. Babies cry, need to eat, and need breaks. That is all totally normal. Give yourself grace and trust that we will get the shots.

What to Expect From a Mountain Brook Newborn Photography Session

A studio newborn session usually runs between two and four hours. Babies set the pace, and that is okay.

Here is a general idea of how the session flows:

  1. Baby arrives and gets settled in the warm studio
  2. Posing begins with wraps and simple setups
  3. Parent and family poses are worked in naturally
  4. Baby gets fed and rested as needed
  5. Session wraps up once we have all the images we need

It is a relaxed, gentle process from start to finish.

FAQ About Laura Cardan Photography Studio Studio Newborn Photographs in Mountain Brook

How old should my baby be for a newborn session?

The ideal age is 10-14 days old. I, also, love the 4 week age. Newborn sessions can take place at any age, however, so don’t skip reaching out because you think you’ve missed the window.

How long does the session take?

Most sessions last two hours. We never rush, though.

Can siblings come to the session?

Always. Sibling photos are a sweet addition to any newborn gallery. Siblings will even get their own time for solo portraits.

Do you provide the props and wraps?

The studio is fully stocked with wraps, baskets, headbands and diaper covers. Other than a moses basket and various things to sit on props are not provided.

What if my baby will not stop crying?

That is completely normal. We take breaks as needed and reschedule if the crying lasts a long time. Feeding, diapering and soothing is part of the process.

When will I receive my photos?

Galleries are typically delivered within a few weeks of your session date. All galleries include black and white images of each color image.
